Very few students enjoy taking tests. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. Try thinking of the pressure of testing as practice for the works world own explosive situations. You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.
The best way to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is to prepare. Applying the motto “Be Prepared” holds true first time and every time.

In fact, it will be your chance to shine, to reveal  the hard work you have to put into your studies. Preparation removes fear. When you are prepared, you will not fear. Preparation helps you not lose your cool.

Test – taking
Part 2
During the test
Read the directions.
It’s important that you follow the instructions exactly. For example, some questions may have more than one correct answer.
Answer easy question first.
Doing this can jog your memory about useful facts. You may also come across information that can help you with other questions.
Answer every question.
Unless there is a penalty for wrong answers, try to answer every question; you may be able to get partial credit for those you begin but don’t complete correctly.

More tips
Finally, look beyond the article for more clues.
·         Read the websites home page and the about us page. Look for a mission statement to learn more about the site, its purpose and the organization sponsoring it.
·         If there is an author listed, look for a biography that discusses the author’s education, profession and other relevant background. If there is no bio on the site, search for one elsewhere on the web.
·         Check the date. Facts can change over time, so see if the site shows when it was last updated.
·         Presentation counts; look at everything from design to spelling. A clean, well-organized site shows a certain degree of professionalism.
·         Avoid sites that are pornographic, vulgar, inappropriate, below par, suggestive, and falsifying.

Read between the lines
Make a judgment about the sites reliability based on your own analysis of the site and the information it contains. Here are some ways to do this:
·         Look for facts you know you can check with a trusted source. if the site gets those facts right, it’s more likely that the other facts on the site are also accurate.
·         Study the language used. Is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? This may indicate that the site is biased.
·         Consider whether the arguments are logical and backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.
·         Check the links to the sources that the author acknowledges. Scholarly writing, whether in print or online, should include a bibliography.

Conduct your research with the attitude of the skeptic.
As you examine websites for clues that they’re trustworthy, ask these questions:
·         Who wrote on the webpage? If you can’t identify the individual or organization responsible for the information, don’t use it.
·         What are the author’s qualifications for writing on the subject?
·         Has the article passed through an editorial process designed to ensure quality and accuracy?
·         What is the websites purpose? Look for motives -- like selling products or winning votes – that could result in biased or incomplete information.
·         Is the information accurate? Is it up-to-date?
·         Where did the author get this information from?

Reading
5 tips for success
Tip 5
Tip 5: Keep a list of questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they’ve read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teachers, and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions while you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than anything else.
The philosopher sir Francis bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book … and a pen.

5 tips for success
Tips 3-4
Tip 3: DO Research
Literary critics have vast numbers of analytical and critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it.in addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.
Tip 4: use a dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

Reading
5 tips for success

Reading and writing go hand and hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to prove your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.
Tip 2: Note the Authors writing style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols or the use of a distinct type of question structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

4. Find a social support network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.

5 tips to staying motivated
Tip 1-2
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/boost-your-skills/8454.html
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes its hard tom stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.
1.     Focus on high impact activities
The key to succeed in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort  to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2.     Create new challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

Take advantage of any free time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. they are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left of each index card and connect your stack of flashcards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. You can even separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER, BUT IN A CARD.
Study with a friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict tests questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the amount of type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate your achievements
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

Distance education: is virtual classroom for you?
Part 3
Challenging aspects of distance education
·         Lack of in-person interaction: some educators argue both teacher-student and student-student contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or web conferences ---- but it’s not the same as being with other students in a classroom.
·         Different levels of quality: many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure its rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.
·         The need to self-start: distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be ideal educational setting for you

Distant education: is a virtual classroom for you?
Part 1
You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class – through distance learning.
Distance learning means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.
Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP® courses.
For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.

Balancing high school and part-time work
Part 3
Brad McGowan of the career center at newton north high school in Massachusetts thinks that working can be a valuable part of a student’s life, if taken on responsibly. “You can derive a great deal from working, considerably more than just money,” he says. “In most cases, you can acquire a nice dose of discipline and a whole new set of skill and experiences.” In addition, your supervisor may be willing to write a strong college recommendation for you.
School comes first
Schoolwork, including homework and studying for tests, should always be your main priority. McGowan cautions students who do decide to work, “if you are rushing through your assignments … or not studying enough for tests because of work, it’s time to cut back or quit and find a less time-consuming job.”

Habit 6
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergize is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking win-win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better that each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a day for couples. When they can be together and spend time with each other, talk, give each other gifts, or for some young girls around here, to give there boyfriend their virginity. I honestly don’t know what Valentine’s Day is. That was just my opinion. People stress a lot sometimes because they don’t have a valentine and I find that really stupid. All these dumb girls all sad because they don’t have a valentine. Well, if you weren’t that much of a hoe with all these guys around the school and in the streets someone would of probably gave you something or asked you to be their valentine, uglyass. They act like if it’s so important. The whole year they are alone and then Valentine’s Day comes and they feel like they really need someone. I don’t care about Valentine’s Day, if I have a valentine or I don’t it’s still the same thing. I might not have a valentine, but I can promise you that I’ll have a girl at my house tonight. Even if she’s not my valentine, or my girlfriend I don’t care. I’m still gonna handle. Valentines is just a day when guys spend their money on their Girlfriend/crush but not me. HELL NO. I aint gonna waste my money on some dumb girl. Ima be posted in my porch, doing what I do every day, chillen with the homies.
The only special person I always buy something for is my mom. Now she is very special to me. Unlike all these dumb hoes roaming these streets. I’ve never been into this Valentine’s Day BS. The only things I’ve ever given to a girl on that day are those little Valentine’s Day cards from the 99 cent store, and that’s because I was like in the 3rd or 2nd grade.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Habit 4
4. Think Win-Win
Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. Its and all-you-can-eat buffet.
Win-win always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking win-win or one of the alternatives is how you feel. Win-lose and lose-win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.
Win-Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no deal

I RATHER JUST DO WHAT I GOTTA DO. AT THE END WHEN I KNOW IM ABOUT TO DIE, ILL KNOW I LIVED A GOOD LIFE AND I HAD FUN, AND I DID EVERYTHING I WANTED. NOT SPEND ALMOST MORE THAN 15 YEARS LISTENING TO A BORING PERSON TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO.

7 habits of highly successful teens

7 Habits of Highly successful Teens
Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind.
If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.
“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation for high school—that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity--that you earned it with perfect honesty.

… Owns or has easy access to a computer with internet access and e-mail
You don’t have to be a computer expert to be successful in online learning---but you must have access to a personal computer with reliable internet access, as well as basic level of competency in using them. Owning a computer with internet access from your home is ideal but many students use the computer labs on campus or at their offices to complete their work.

STUDENT SUCCESS STATEMENT
"ITS NOT WHERE YOU LIVE BUT HOW YOU LIVE THAT COUNTS. ITS NOT WHERE YOU PLAY THE GAME BUT HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME THAT COUNTS."

THIS RIGHT HERE IS A DUMB STATEMENT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU PLAY? SO IS PLAYING IN A WHITE NEIGHBORHOOD THE SAME AS PLAYING IN A GHETTO PLACE?  NAH!!!

YOU GO TO A GHETTO PLACE THEY WILL BEAT YOUR NALGAS! UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM OR SOMETHING BUT DON'T SAY ITS THE SAME. MAKES NO SENSE.
